How to access Software Updates from Support Repositories |
DescriptionThis document provides the step by step instructions to access Contract Support Repositories (Packages) on pkgs.sun.com
Support Package Repositories
Recently released Sun products are using the Image Packaging System,
also known as the pkg(5) system, to deliver support updates and
commercial add-ons via network-accessible package repositories. Access
to these support repositories is limited to customers with support
contracts and/or subscriptions for the associated software products.
Some products use package repositories in addition to the traditional
method of using SunSolve to deliver updates as patches while other products use support repositories as the exclusive delivery channel for updates.
The
pkg(5) system forms the basis of the Sun-managed OpenSolaris OS
distribution and is developed as an open source project within the
OpenSolaris community. Refer to OpenSolaris Support Repository Updates for details on the use of OpenSolaris support package repositories.
Sun
also ports the pkg(5) system to a variety of other OS platforms
including Windows, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X and AIX in support of
layered or unbundled software products. The latest versions of Sun
layered products such as GlassFish Enterprise Server, Web Space Server,
Web Stack and Message Queue have adopted the pkg(5) system for use
across their supported OS platforms. Other Sun layered products are in
the process of adopting the pkg(5) system.
Get Ready...
If you are an individual with a Contract, start at Step One.
If you work for a company:
Important: If
your primary user has been established at Sun and provides you the
party number you are ok to register on Member Support Center.
If
you do not have your Company Party Number or you have forgotten or your
Primary User has not sent you a party number, completing apply for access to Member Support Center, will allow the support team to investigate and send you the information needed. Do not miss this step, as it's critical to ensure your access is approved.
At
this stage of the process, Sun will investigate to see if your company
has a primary user established. If yes, you will be sent the primary
users information. If there is not a primary user identified, you will
be contacted by the Member Support Center team, requesting you to
identify the primary user's name at your company for this contract. If
this user is someone other than yourself, they will be required to
register first and then supply you with the party number. If the
primary user is you, then start the process below at step one.
Step One - Activating your SunOnline Account
If you have a Sun Online Account, log-in to the Member Support Center to trigger the registration process.
If you do not have a Sun Online Account, from the Member Support Center log-in page select "Register" to “Create Sun Online Account”
to create your Sun Online Account. Once created the application
automatically displays the select User Type which is the first page of
the Member Support Center registration process.
Detailed Steps:
From the Member Support Center ( http://ibis.sun.com/support), enter in your login/password (this is your Sun Online Account)
Follow
the 4 step process, which requires you to select a User Type, enter the
Party Number, Verify your Sun Online Account details and select submit.
Your
request has been submitted. When your primary user approves your
account you will receive a notification from Member Support Center,
indicating that your registration was process and you can login and
access the Member Support Center. Note If you log in prior to the
account being approved you will see an Oracle e-business error. The
error will continue to be displayed until your primary user approves
your account.
Step Two - Obtain your certificate
In
order to access support repositories you must configure your product
installation with the certificate/key for the repository you need to
access.
To generate and download the certificate log into http://pkg.sun.com/
website. You will be presented with a list of product repositories.
Select the support repository you would like to generate a certificate
for (for example; "OpenSolaris standard support"), and click Submit.
After accepting the license agreement download the certificate and key
and follow the detailed instructions provided.
If you do not see
the product support repository you wish to access then there is an
issue with the product entitlements associated with your Sun Online
Account.
