Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) security vulnerability in the Sun Java System
Access Manager Cross-Domain Controller (CDC):

1. Impact

A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Sun Java System Access Manager Cross-Domain Controller (CDC) may allow an unprivileged remote user to inject code into web pages served by the Access Manager CDC which can result in various impacts including the theft of sensitive information such as cookie information, access to user credentials, or the hijacking of sessions.

The Cross-Domain Controller (CDC) is a servlet that communicates with policy agents outside its own domain, and then checks for a user's Single Sign-On (SSO) information.

Note: This issue only affects the Sun Java System Access Manager if Cross-Domain Single Sign-On (CDSSO) functionality is enabled (the Cross-Domain Controller (CDC) servlet is not used in single-domain deployments).

To determine if Cross-Domain Single Sign-On (CDSSO) functionality is enabled and therefore the Cross-Domain Controller (CDC) servlet is in use, the AMAgent.properties configuration file can be reviewed for the properties named "com.sun.am.policy.agents.config.cdsso.enable" and "com.sun.am.policy.agents.config.cdcservlet.url".

If "com.sun.am.policy.agents.config.cdsso.enable" is set to "true" and if "com.sun.am.policy.agents.config.cdcservlet.url" includes the CDC servlet in the URL such as in "http://host:port/path/to/amserver/cdcservlet" then Cross-Domain Single Sign-On (CDSSO) functionality is enabled.

To determine if Sun Java System Access Manager is installed on a Solaris system, the following command can be used:

    % pkginfo -l SUNWamsvc || echo "Sun Java Access Manager not installed"
    PKGINST:  SUNWamsvc
    NAME:  Sun Java System Access Manager Services
    CATEGORY:  application
    ARCH:  all
    VERSION:  7.1,REV=06.12.19.15.12

To determine the version of Sun Java System Access Manager on other systems, the following command can be used:

    $ <access-manager-install-dir>/bin/amadmin --version
    Sun Java System Access Manager 7.1

(where <access-manager-install-dir> is the installation directory of the Sun Java System Access Manager).

3. Symptoms

There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described issue has been exploited.

4. Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution section below.
