Category :Availability
Release Phase :Resolved
Product :Sun StorageTek 3510 FC Array
Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA Array
Bug Id :5039653, 5039690
Date of Workaround Release :20-JUL-2004
Date of Resolved Release :24-AUG-2005

Impact

Using certain sccli(1M) commands to manage a Sun StorEdge 3510 or 3511 Fiber Channel Array that is configured with more than 16 LUN masks (or filters) per LUN, may cause the controller to hang. As a result, the host (system) could experience a loss of access to the Sun StorEdge 3510 or 3511 LUNs.

Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

  • Sun StorEdge 3510 FC Array without patch 113723-10
  • Sun StorEdge 3511 FC Array without patch 113724-04

The described issue only occurs if both of the following are true:

1. More than 16 LUN masks (or filters) are created per LUN.

2. The "sccli show configuration" or the "sccli show lun-maps" commands are used with sccli(1M) version 1.5, 1.6, or 1.6.1 to manage a Sun StorEdge 3510 and 3511 Fiber Channel Array.

To determine the version of sccli(1M), run the following command:

    # sccli -v
    sccli version 1.5

Note: If more than 16 LUN masks (or filters) are used per LUN, StorADE should not be used.

Symptoms

Should the described issue occur, the "show configuration" and "show lun-maps" commands will cause the the Primary Controller to hang.

There are no error messages available that would indicate the described issue has occurred.

Workaround

To work around the described issue, do not configure a Sun StorEdge 3510 or 3511 FC Array with more than 16 LUN masks (or filters) per LUN.

If more than 16 LUN masks (or filters) are created per LUN, do not use the following sccli(1M) commands to manage a Sun StorEdge 3510 or 3511 Fiber Channel Array:

  • sccli show configuration
  • sccli show lun-maps

Resolution

This issue is addressed in the following releases:

  • Sun StorEdge 3510 FC Array with patch 113723-10 or later
  • Sun StorEdge 3511 FC Array with patch 113724-04 or later
