Impact
During the recovery from a failure, Sun StorEdge 3310/3510/3511 FC array controllers may incorrectly offline good drives causing multiple drive failures. As a result, logical devices may become degraded thereby causing applications to stop running.
Note: This issue can be triggered by a marginal link or a drive failure.
Contributing Factors
This issue can occur on the following platforms:
SPARC Platform
- Sun StorEdge 3310 FC array without patch 113722-10
- Sun StorEdge 3510 FC array without patch 113723-10
- Sun StorEdge 3511 FC array without patch 113724-04
Symptoms
Should the described issue occur, messages similar to the following can be found in the Sun StorEdge 3310/3510/3511 event log:
[1115] #16334: StorEdge Array SN#8014709 CH2 ID11: SCSI Drive ALERT: unexpected
sense received (02h, 05h,21/00)
The above message indicates that the drive with ID11 has rejected the command from the controller as an "illegal request". This will be followed by a message indicating that the drive has failed:
