Impact

On Sun Fire 12K/15K systems running SMS 1.3, patch 114608-05 may generate a "Dstop" when another domain that shares an expander board is shutdown, or when a Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR) Operation on a domain is in progress where the other slot in that expander is already active in that same domain.


Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

  • Sun Fire 12K/15K with System Management Software (SMS) 1.3 with patch 114608-05 and without patch 114608-06

Note: SMS 1.1 and 1.2 are not affected.

To determine whether a system has an expander or not, run the following command:

    % shaxq -v

Domain letters that are not the same for both the System Board (slot 0) and I/O (slot 1) indicate a split expander configuration. In the above example, the domains at risk are domains R and F (indicated in bold).


Symptoms

If the described issue occurs, an error message similar to the following will appear on the console:

    e15kb-sc0 hwad[22572]: [ERR InterruptHandler.cc 2171]
    Domain Stop interrupt detected, domain C

Workaround

To work around the described issue, backout patch 114608-05 and install patch 114608-04 or patch 114608-06. Also, do not attempt to perform a DR operation when patch 114608-05 is installed.
