Sun Fire V20z and V40z systems running Solaris 10 x86 with the LSI MegaRaid ... see below:
1. Impact
Sun Fire V20z and V40z systems running Solaris 10 x86 with the LSI MegaRaid (SCSI) card and the accompanying "amr" driver (with the RAID caching feature enabled) may experience a hang or disruption of system I/O.
2. Contributing Factors
This issue can occur on the following platforms:
- SunFire V20z and V40z with Solaris 10 (x86) and LSI MegaRaid SCSI card (using the "amr" driver and RAID caching feature enabled)
Notes:
- SPARC systems are not affected by this issue.
- Solaris 8 and 9 are not affected by this issue.
- The RAID caching feature must be enabled on the LSI MegaRaid card for this condition to occur.
To determine if the system is using the "amr" driver, the following command can be run:
# modinfo | grep -i amr
24 fffffffffbac0060 44b0 40 1 amr (AMR Driver V1.5)
3. Symptoms
Should the described issue occur, "amr warning" messages similar to the following may be output to the "/var/adm/messages" log file and system console:

4. Workaround
To work around the described issue, use one of the following options:
1. Set the LSI MegaRaid caching feature to default values in the LSI MegaRaid configuration utility (CTRL-M). All defined LUNs should have the following caching parameter values:
Read Policy = Normal
Write Policy = Writethru
Cache Policy = Direct I/O
Note: Setting the caching parameters to default values may impact system I/O performance.
Or:
2. Replace the the orginal LSI "amr" driver with the "lsimega" driver by downloading the file "solsimega.zip" from http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=431fd1be
Instructions for installing the new driver are included in the download file. (A Sun account for login is required to download this file).
Note: The "lsimega" driver will be bundled with Solaris 10 x86 Update 1, scheduled for release in January 2006.
