Impact
Sun Blade 100/150 systems running SunVTS 5.1 may report "data miscompare" error messages under certain conditions.
Note: SunVTS is a diagnostic tool designed to exercise the system at significantly higher rates of data transfer and utilization than may appear in a normal operating environment.
Contributing Factors
This issue can occur in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
-
Sun Blade 100 with SunVTS 5.1
-
Sun Blade 150 with SunVTS 5.1
The described issue only occurs if all of the conditions following are met:
-
the system is running in diagnostic mode
-
the serial port controller is handling heavy traffic such as data access from/to IDE hard disk
-
when "sutest" (Super I/O Test) and "disktest" (Disk Drive Tests) are run simultaneously
Symptoms
Should the described issue occur, SunVTS may report "data miscompare" errors similar to the following:
08/11/03 16:35:58 dt214-175 SunVTS5.1ps2: VTSID 6003 sutest.WARNING su0:
"data miscompare, cnt = 2910, exp = 0x5e, obs = 0x4e, receive device =
/dev/term/a, source device = /dev/term/a, baud rate = 9600"
Probable_Cause(s): <system load too heavy for selected baud rate>
loopback connection defective> <bad serial port hardware> <system
software error> Recommended_Actions: <reduce system load> <lower baud
rate> <check loopback connection> <if the problem persists, contact
authorized Sun service provider>
Workaround
To avoid this issue, do not run "sutest" and "disktest" concurrently. Therefore, when running "sutest", all "disktest" should be de-selected and when running "disktest", all "sutest" should be de-selected.
Resolution
A final resolution is pending completion.
