Impact
On rare occasions, packets received from any of the four onboard Ethernet ports on Sun Fire V210/V240 servers may contain corrupted data that is passed onto the network stack. The result could be that data is corrupted on the system with no indication of it.
Current data indicates that the vast majority of the failing systems have been contained in manufacturing and have not shipped to customers.

This issue can occur with the following configurations:

Sun Fire V210 Server using onboard Ethernet ports

Sun Fire V240 Server using onboard Ethernet ports
Note: Sun Fire V210 and V240 Servers not using the onboard Ethernet ports are not affected by this issue.
Note: Sun Fire V210/V240 servers connected by means of network adapter cards only are not affected.
The described issue has been observed in less than 0.3% (less than 3 out of 1000) systems tested.
Symptoms
There are no predictable symptoms that would show the described issue has been encountered on a system.
Workaround
Should the described issue be experienced, please contact your Sun Services representative for a workaround.
Resolution
Although we expect very few customers to experience any issues, Sun recommends that customers using the on board ethernet ports replace the Sun Fire V210/V240 motherboard at no charge.
This motherboard replacement process will be addressed in a Field Change Order (FCO) which is in the process of being implemented. Please contact your local Sun Services representative.
