Impact
As outlined in the SE3510 User's Manual, the SE3510 has the ability to send SNMP traps without the use of the Sun StorEdge Configuration Service Console (SSCS) software. This functionality does not work as documented for the SE3510 with firmware (FW) 3.27P, 3.27Q, and 3.27R.
Contributing Factors
This issue can occur in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
- Sun StorEdge 3510 FC array with firmware 3.27P, 3.27Q and 3.27R (as delivered in patch 113723-05 through 113723-07) and without firmware 4.13c (as delivered in patch 113723-11)
To determine the 3510 firmware revision, run the following command:
sccli> show inquiry
Vendor: SUN
Product: StorEdge 3510
Revision: 327P
Peripheral Device Type: 0x0
...
Symptoms
Should the described issue occur, data would not be transmitted to the system, and the state of the Sun StorEdge array will be unknown. There are no visible symptoms that would indicate this issue has occurred.
Workaround
To workaround this issue (until the patch can be applied) set up the SE3510 software for monitoring on a management host, making sure it captures event messages from the array correctly in the designated file, which is typically the "/var/adm/messages.3510" file. Once this is verified to work, the SE3510 management software can be made to send SNMP traps to 3rd party management software.
Resolution
This issue is addressed in the following release:
SPARC Platform
- Sun StorEdge 3510 FC array with firmware 4.13c (as delivered in patch 113723-11 or later)
