Impact

With VRTSvxfs 4.0MP2 patch 116687-02, 116688-02 or 116689-02 installed, the file system may not mount during a Sun Cluster failover.

Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and 3.1 (for Solaris 7) with patch 116687-02 (for VRTSvxfs 4.0MP2) and without patch 120107-01
  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and 3.1 (for Solaris 8) with patch 116688-02 (for VRTSvxfs 4.0MP2) and without patch 120107-01
  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and 3.1 (for Solaris 9) with patch 116689-02 (for VRTSvxfs 4.0MP2) and without patch 120107-01

Note: Sun Cluster on the x86 Platform is not affected by this issue.


Symptoms

Use of the Sun Cluster "scswitch" command results in the following errors:

  mount: cannot stat mount-point /global/vxfs.
  mount: I/O error

  UX:vxfs vxenablef: INFO: V-3-23653: System is licensed for features: QIO Clone 
  pgem1# mount /global/vxfs
  pgem1#  ./vxenablef 
  UX:vxfs vxenablef: INFO: V-3-23653: System is licensed for features: 
  Full_VxFS QIO Clone DMAPI

Additional errors may be seen in /var/sadm/patch/116689-02/log file:

  Driver (vxportal) is already installed.
  System configuration files modified but vxportal driver not loaded or attached.
  Driver (fdd) is already installed.
  Device busy
  Cannot unload module: fdd
  Will be unloaded upon reboot.
  System configuration files modified but fdd driver not loaded or attached.
  cp: cannot access /net/pixie.sfbay/export/patches/patchdb/116689/116689-02/VRTSv
  xfs/install/VXFSLDLIC
  install: cp /net/pixie.sfbay/export/patches/patchdb/116689/116689-02/VRTSvxfs/
  install/VXFSLDLIC //etc/init.d/VXFSLDLIC failed
  ln: cannot access //etc/init.d/VXFSLDLIC
  Driver (qlog) is already installed.
  System configuration files modified but qlog driver not loaded or attached.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution section below.


Resolution

This issue is resolved in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and 3.1 (for Solaris 7) with patch 120107-01 or later
  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and 3.1 (for Solaris 8) with patch 120107-01 or later
  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and 3.1 (for Solaris 9) with patch 120107-01 or later

Note: This is a "general" patch that covers all versions of Solaris for this issue. Do not back out the previous VRTSvxfs 4.0 MP2 patch prior to installation of this patch. Please see the patch README for additional information.
